Bleeding Gums Are Not Normal: Periodontics Before You Lose Bone
Deep cleaning, pocket care, and gum surgery at Dental Castle — how periodontal disease silently loosens teeth, and what we do about it.
If you see pink on the brush and tell yourself you brushed too hard, you may be watching gum disease. Periodontics is the care of gums and the bone that holds teeth. Untreated, pockets deepen, bone melts, teeth drift, and dentures become the conversation you wanted to avoid.
Warning signs
- Bleeding when you brush, floss, or eat something firm
- Breath that returns hours after cleaning
- Gums that look puffy, dark red, or have pulled away
- Teeth that feel longer or slightly mobile
- Pus or a bad taste from one spot
- A metallic taste or spaces appearing between teeth
How we treat at Dental Castle
Professional cleaning for gingivitis (inflammation without bone loss). Scaling and root planing — a deep clean under the gums — for early periodontitis. You may need more than one quadrant visit. Pocket reduction (flap) surgery, grafts, bone grafts, and guided tissue regeneration are for sites that will not shrink with cleaning alone. Crown lengthening is sometimes needed so a restoration can sit on solid tooth, not inflamed gum.
Why your body is in this story
Gum inflammation talks to the rest of you. Diabetes and smoking make pockets worse; treating gums can help oral comfort even when medical care is separate. We will ask about sugar control and tobacco without lecturing you out of the chair — but we will not pretend they do not matter.
Will deep cleaning hurt?
We numb the area. Soreness for a few days is common. Teeth may feel more sensitive until gums tighten. That sensitivity is often a sign the swelling is going down.
Can I reverse bone loss?
Lost bone does not grow back like a fingernail. We can stop the disease, reduce pockets, and in selected sites regenerate support. Starting early is the difference between a deep clean and surgery.
