Pediatric Dentistry: First Visits That Teach Children the Chair Is Safe

When to start, sealants, baby-tooth care, and how Dental Castle’s pedodontist keeps Hyderabad kids calm — and cavity-free.

Dr. Nikhil Reddy · 15 Aug 2026

Children remember the first dentist. If that memory is a shout and a held-down filling, every visit after is a battle. Pediatric dentistry at Dental Castle is paced for small patients: we explain, we show, we do — and we protect baby teeth because they hold space for the adult ones coming behind.

When should the first visit be?

By the first birthday, or when the first tooth appears — whichever comes first. The visit may be a lap exam and a conversation with you. That is still a real appointment. Waiting until there is a hole in a molar is how children learn that dentists equal pain.

What we offer as they grow

  • Cleanings and fluoride to harden enamel
  • Sealants on grooved molars — a thin coat that blocks decay in the pits
  • Diet talk that is specific (sippy cups of juice at night are a classic cavity machine)
  • Tooth-coloured fillings when a cavity is already there
  • Baby root canals (pulp therapy) and paediatric crowns to save a tooth until it is ready to fall
  • Space maintainers if a baby tooth is lost too early
  • Habit appliances if thumb-sucking or a tongue thrust starts moving the bite
  • Frenectomy when a tight lip or tongue tie affects feeding or speech, after the right assessment

How we handle fear

Tell us before you arrive. We book extra time. Parents stay when it helps; we also know when a calm chair-side manner works better without an anxious adult narrating. We never shame a child for crying. We stop and regroup rather than force a full treatment in one sitting if safety allows delay.

Do baby teeth need fillings if they will fall out?

Infected baby teeth hurt, keep children from eating, and can damage the adult tooth bud. A blackened molar is not “just a baby tooth.” We treat it or remove it with a plan for space — we do not ignore it.

What about bottle decay?

Milk or juice in a bottle in bed bathes front teeth in sugar all night. We see this often. Prevention is water after feeds and not sleeping with a sweetened bottle. If damage is already there, come in; earlier is kinder.

Make the first visit ordinary
