Oral Surgery Without the Panic: Extractions, Wisdom Teeth, and After-Care

Oral surgery on a website sounds like a hospital corridor. Most of what we do at Dental Castle is planned, local, and over in a morning: a hopeless tooth, a wisdom tooth that has no space, a frenulum that pulls the lip, or bone grafting so an implant can sit later. Fear shrinks when you know the sequence.

When removal is the kind option

• A tooth split below the gum or decayed into the root
• Infection that will not clear with a root canal
• Wisdom teeth that are impacted, decayed, or crowding the second molar
• Orthodontic space that cannot be created any other way
• A root tip left from an old extraction that keeps the gum sore

How we keep you comfortable

We review X-rays or 3D imaging, map nerves and sinuses, and agree anaesthesia: local for most cases, with sedation discussed when anxiety or surgical time is higher. You should not feel sharp pain during the procedure. Pressure and vibration are normal; we pause if you need a break.

Recovery that actually works

Bite on gauze as instructed. Ice the cheek the first day. Soft, cool foods — curd rice, smoothies without a straw if we advise against suction. No smoking or spitting forcefully; that can dislodge the clot and cause a dry socket. Mild swelling peaks around day two. Call us for fever, spreading swelling, or bleeding that soaks dressings and will not slow.

Do all wisdom teeth need to come out?

No. Erupted, cleanable, pain-free wisdom teeth can stay. We remove them when they are trapped, infected, decaying, or damaging the tooth in front. A scan decides — not a calendar age.

Can I go to work the next day?

Simple extractions, often yes. Surgical wisdom teeth, give yourself a quieter day. We write a note if you need rest.

Do not wait for an emergency
